Chapter 3 blog Post

A class divided video.

I liked this video very much. I feel it is a great representation of  prejudice, especially in the time it was filmed. I feel that the most interesting part was that on the day a certain group was on top they acceled in school compared to the day they were on the bottom. What I didn't like about the video was the  way the teacher would talk to the students to build up how they were treated. I understand why it was important that she did it, to build up the students hatred for each other, I just feel that it was too much. Also I didn't like how she made them wear the collars around their neck, I thought it was degrading for the young children.

Diversity Chapter 1

Blog Post Chapter 1:

1. What does it mean to be American?
Being American means to be free without any judgement. It means being able to have a say in what laws and things we have. It also means we are a very diverse country, and that makes us smart given that we as an American people have to learn about the different cultures.

2. Does the reigning Miss. America represent America?
I believe the reigning Miss America does represent America because she comes from a different ethical background,  and shows how diverse America is. Through her we can learn about other cultures and other places.

3. What did you learn from Zip Skinny?

When I did the zip skinny assignment I learned so much more about my city then I did before.  I live in Dundalk, which is 21222, and according to zip skinny and the census 9.3% of the population of Dundalk is below the poverty line, which is below the average of the American population. Also compared to 21224, which is more of Baltimore,  Dundalk has more people. Also 21224 has a greater precentage of people never married, where as Dundalk has more married couples, and this could be due to the more urban aspects of the city.

4. What will the US demographics look like in 2050?  What does this mean for you?
In 2050 the US will be filled with a lot more people, and very little. According to CNN by 2050 most people will be working from home and transportation will change. I'm not really sure what this will mean for me, and I'm not positive that I will still be around in 2050, but I hope I will be.
